hey everyone, im looking for something very portable and really like the djcontrol mix and starlight. i just cant determine which to go with.

mix:
i really like the wireless connectivity the mix offers, but worry about lag or delay. i also like that they adopted usb c so i can use it with my ipad pro, or macbook pro easily. obviously, being able to use my ipad or phone on the go is also a plus.

starlight:
i like the option to connect a speaker and my laptop via cable for low latency and reliability and the beat matching lights, but im not sure if those are worth basing a decision on.

what other key things should i look at? these both work with djay and serato correct?

Mix uses BLE, and there's no noticable delay. But it has no sound card so you have to use the splitter calbe included to make it work properly (I mean to use your headphones for cueing). It's Djuced and djay Pro compatible.
Starlight has no beatmatch lights, that's on the Inpulse series controllers - but they can be helpful, just they work a bit differently. It's Djuced and and Serato compatible out of the box, but you can download mappings for Traktor, VirtualDJ and Dex 5 from the Hercules support site. (There's a djay Pro mapping as well, but recently djay supports it properly without it).

I like both, they are great little controllers - but I tend to use the Starlight more often: simply the integrated sound card goes a long way for me. (But the Mix goes well with my Android tablet)

Thanks for the super helpful info. I think the Mix suits my needs (I'm a hobbyist DJ and like the ability to use my ipad, phone or mac even if I have to use the splitter cable.

Hello fbords,

To use your iPhone & iPad with wired speakers/headphones, for device without headphones jack, you need the Lightning (or USB-C) to 1/8" (3.5mm) headphones adapter.

But to be more comfortable and keep the iPhone/iPad connected to its power source, it is more comfortable to use a lightining (or USB-C) to audio + charge cable, as Belkin Rockstar:
- in Lightning format:  https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HLJV2ZM/B/belkin-35-mm-audio-charge-rockstar
- in USB-C format (for iPad with USB-C port):
