hi, having some mind numbing issues since i updated to el capitan or the latest version of mixxx, not sure which is causing the problem
i am admittedly using a pretty ancient piece of kit, a hercules mk2 controller (this guy here:
http://www.hercules.com/uk/legacy/bdd/p ... ldj-djc-ed )
but it has been serving me very well for the occasional bit of djing. however, since i upgraded to a new version of mixx or the latest mac os it just isnt being recognised by the mixx software... simply not showing up under the controller options at all. im running el capitan, version 10.11.6 on a 2012 macbook pro [also pretty ancient now i guess...] and have also tried installing various older version of mixx, from 2.0, 1.9 even back to 1.8 to see if anything would work... no dice.

should also mention when i plug in the mixer it appears to be working, all the lights switch on, and stay lit up. just not showing up as a device to select in the options of the mixxx software

really dont want or need to buy a new controller, if im missing a trick please let me know, any help much appreciated!

Hello,

Welcome on the forum.
As I do not use Mixxx, I cannot answer on this DJ software, but we can check if DJ Console Mk2 is properly detected in macOS.
- Make sure you installed an up to date driver package: today's last driver is DJSeriesInstall 6.07s, and you can download it from
here  https://support.hercules.com/en/product/djconsolemk2-en/
- After you have connected the DJ Console Mk2 to the mac, go in Applications > DJHERCULESMIX > DJSeries > Mk2 > ControlPanel,
- Run ControlPanel.app
- Go to the About tab

What you should read

Driver Package: v6.07 => reference of the driver package, 6.07s.
Firmware: v1.1.7.16 => firmware detected: if you can read a firmware version, the Mk2 is properly detected (If you read Firmware: N/A, it means the Mk2 is not properly detected).
Server: v12.61 => just an internal information
DJ API: v10.1 => driver file activated

Hello,

I see several possibilities:

1) USB 3 & El Capitan (and later macOS): your DJ Console Mk2 is not properly detected because its

a) firmware is not up to date: El Capitan caused millions of compatibility issues with USB devices on macbook USB 3.0 ports. A majority of these issues was solved with a firmware update + Mac OS 10.11.4 or later, but then you should update the firmware on another computer.
Solution: you can try to connect it on
- an old Mac with a MacOS before mac OS 10.11
- an old PC (a PC in Windows 7 or Windows 8.0) or a Windows 10 PC with not any USB 3 port,
if it works on the older PC or Mac, then it will be possible to update the firmware if you have a USB hub which has a power adapter

b) USB timing issue: since El Capitan, Mac USB 3 ports are less tolerant with long USB cables operating in full speed as DJ Console Mk2, the solution is to replace the USB cable with a 3 feet (1m) USB 2.0 cable, as
https://www.amazon.co.uk/G-Shield-Printer-Scanner-Lexmark-Photosmart/dp/B00NA21K36/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-36672-Type-Cable-Anthra/dp/B07FW6W8NZ/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-41922-USB-Type-Cable/dp/B01GAU91SK/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-USB-Type-2-0-Cable/dp/B01GAU8ALO/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-1m-USB-Cable-Transparent/dp/B00008A92D/

2) USB bus power: your MacBook USB bus may not deliver enough power to keep DJ Console Mk2 in operation: you should try connecting a USB hub with a power adapter between the Mac and the DJ Console Mk2, preferably a USB 3.0 hub.

3) Firmware eeprom unreadable: if the eeprom containing the firmware of DJ Console Mk2 was previously bricked during a firmware update, then the DJ Console Mk2 will no longer be properly detected on any computer. So the solution would be to
- disassemble the DJ Console Mk2,
- remove the eeprom,
- place the eeprom on a dedicated programmer (called an eeprom burner),
- and reprogram this eeprom with a firmware file I can send you,
- place again the eeprom on its socket, and reassemble the DJ Console Mk2.
